Birkbeck, University of London is located in Bloomsbury and Stratford and is uniquely known for its teaching taking place in the evening. This enables students to pursue other activities from part-time work to internships during the day, and Birkbeck’s flexible approach to study and teaching makes it an attractive destination for international students.

95% of Birkbeck students are in work or further study upon graduation, and currently more than 50 undergraduate and 200 postgraduate degrees – ranging from the arts to sciences to business – are offered in the evening.

There are around 12,000 students from over 120 different countries enrolled at the University, and Birkbeck continually scores highly in the quality of its teaching and research. 73% of Birkbeck research was rated ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent' in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, a significant improvement from the 56% mark it received in 2008.

The Birkbeck campus is situated in the heart of central London in Bloomsbury, and is surrounded by other colleges such as UCL and SOAS. The University of London Union (ULU) is next door, with high quality sports and social facilities. The International Students’ House, 15 minutes’ walk away, also offers a range of social and recreational facilities.

The College is five minutes’ walk from the British Museum, and within easy walking distance of the well-known West End shopping areas of Oxford Street and Covent Garden. The bars, restaurants and nightclubs of Soho and Chinatown are just down the road, and the West End theatres are almost next door. All this makes for a lively student atmosphere on a city-centre university campus.
