Scholarships at University of Manchester

The University of Manchester is proud to offer awards totalling more than £3.5 million to international students starting their studies in September 2024, the year of our bicentenary. 

The scholarship is open to both undergraduate and master's students holding an offer from the University. 

• Evaluation will primarily be based on academic merit and the quality of your scholarship application. 

• To be eligible for a Global Futures Scholarship, you must be normally resident in either the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates. You must be self-funded (not sponsored) and assessed as ‘overseas for fee purposes’.

• To apply for the scholarship, you must hold an offer of a place to study an eligible full-time programme of study taught at The University of Manchester’s campus in the UK which starts in September 2024. You will then be required to submit an online application form which will be emailed to all relevant offer holders. 

Undergraduate awards

The University of Manchester is proud to offer more than 110 merit-based undergraduate scholarships of £21,000 to international students from a selection of countries across the globe, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Award details

ach award comprises £7,000 for the first year of study with a further £7,000 awarded in the second and third years of study, conditional on attainment of 60% average in each year. Scholarships will be awarded in the form of a discount on published overseas tuition fees. 

Students must be taking one of the following qualifications:  

• A Levels 

• IB Diploma 

• Indian Standard XII (CBSE, ISC, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Gujarat boards only)

Scholarship short-listing will be based upon academic excellence, predicted grades and your responses to questions in the online application form, which will be emailed to all eligible offer holders. Awardees will be selected based on academic merit though we may also endeavour to achieve a balance in the allocation of the awards by gender, domicile, qualification type and course of study. 

Eligibility criteria

• Applications will be considered from international fee-paying students domiciled in either Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates.

• Applicants must be applying for direct first-year entry in 2024 and have, or be working towards one of the following qualifications: A Levels, IB Diploma, Indian Standard XII (CBSE, ISC, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Gujarat boards only).

• Applicants for the awards must have accepted (made ‘Firm’ via UCAS) a conditional or unconditional offer to study a full-time programme at Manchester and must submit an online scholarship application form by 23 May 2024.

• Students do not need their final results in order to apply for a Global Futures Scholarship. Where an applicant has not yet received their results at the point of making a scholarship application, academic merit with be assessed based on predicted grades from their school. These are likely to be based on the results of any previous tests or examinations.

• Applicants must be self-funded (not sponsored).

• Applicants for Medicine (MBChB), Dentistry (BDS), Architecture, or any courses with an integrated foundation year are not eligible for the award.

• Applicants who have previously studied at a higher education institution in the UK are not eligible for the award.

• Applicants for blended and distance learning programmes are not eligible for the award.

• Scholarship applications from A Level, IB and NCUK IFY students will be assessed on any previous examinations, predicted grades in the above-listed qualifications and the strength of the personal statement.

• Scholarships for South African NSC/IEB students will be based upon grades attained following the results release in January 2024 and the strength of the personal statement.

Students must be taking one of the following qualifications: Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrolment, High School Diploma, International Baccalaureate, or A-Levels. 

Scholarships will be awarded based on academic excellence, predicted grades and your responses to questions in the online application form, which will be emailed to all eligible applicants. 

Awardees will be selected based on academic merit, but we will endeavour to achieve a balance in the allocation of the awards by gender, domicile, qualification type and course of study. 

Summary of eligibility criteria

• Applications for the scholarship should be submitted on the dedicated online form by 15 March 2024. A link to the online application form will be emailed to relevant offer holders. We cannot accept late applications under any circumstances. 

• Applications will be considered from international fee-paying students domiciled in the USA.

• Applicants must be applying for direct first-year entry in 2024 and have, or be working towards one of the following qualifications: Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrolment, High School Diploma, IB Diploma. A-Levels.

• Awards offers will be made by 19 April 2024, and will be conditional on academic performance as outlined in the full terms and conditions linked below.  

• Applicants for the USA awards must have accepted (made firm) a conditional or unconditional offer to study a full-time programme at Manchester by 23 May 2024. Failure to do so may result in any award being withdrawn.

• Scholarship applications from Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrolment, IB and A Level students will be assessed on any previous examinations, predicted grades in the above-listed qualifications and the strength of the personal statement.

• Applicants must be self-funded (not sponsored). You may apply for the award if you plan on using US Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

• Applicants for Medicine (MBChB), Dentistry (BDS), Architecture, or any courses with an integrated foundation year are not eligible for the award.

Master’s awards 

Manchester is proud to offer over 100 merit-based master’s scholarships to prospective international students from a range of countries across the globe.  

The value of the Bicentenary Global Futures Scholarships for students from the USA is £8,000; scholarships will be awarded in the form of a discount on published overseas tuition fees.  

Award details

These scholarships of £8,000 will be awarded based on academic excellence and the quality of your responses in the online application form. 

Scholarships will be awarded in the form of a discount on published overseas tuition fees. 

Eligibility criteria

• Applications will be considered from international fee-paying students domiciled in the USA. 

• Applicants must apply for the scholarship via an online form by 15 March 2024 and will be considered based on academic merit and the quality of their application. The link to the application form will be emailed to all applicants.   

• Decisions will be made on the applicant’s performance in their bachelor’s degree. 

• Applicants will be considered for the award based on academic merit and the quality of their scholarship application, but we will endeavour to achieve a balance by gender, domicile and course in the allocation of the awards. 

• Applicants must be self-funded (not sponsored). You may apply for the scholarship if you are planning to use US Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

• Applicants for MBA, MPhil, Master of Architecture (MArch), Architecture and Urbanism (MA), Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA), Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), Clinical Medicine and Dentistry degrees are not eligible for the award. Some ‘Master’s by Research.

The University of Manchester’s School of Engineering is proud to offer scholarship awards to academically excellent international students, commencing their postgraduate taught studies from September 2024.

Scholarship overview

If you hold an offer from one of the following departments, you will be considered for the scholarships:

• Department of Chemical Engineering

• Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering

• Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering 

• Department of Computer Science

These awards require no additional application; all offer holders are considered based on academic merit. Shortlisted candidates may be contacted for further assessment in the form of a written statement.

Successful awardees will be announced by the end of 31 July 2024 and granted one of the following tuition fee discounts:

• One full tuition fee waiver up to £36,500. This award is for the MSc Management of Projects suite of programmes. 

• Four £10,000 partial tuition fee waivers.

• Ten £6,000 partial tuition fee waivers.

Engineering the Future Scholarships can also be awarded in conjunction with other scholarships from the University.

Eligibility

To be eligible for an Engineering the Future scholarship you must:

• be a resident of a country within South Asia, South East Asia or Africa;

• hold an offer (conditional or unconditional) for a master’s level (taught) full time course – commencing in September 2024 – within The Faculty of Science and Engineering;

• have completed an English Language qualification to the required standard for the course;

• be fully registered for your chosen course by the registration deadline;

• hold a bachelor’s degree with a minimum classification of a good Upper Second class (2:1) (or international equivalent), or be on track to achieve this;  

• be self-funding (for example, not sponsored) your course and classified as an international candidate for tuition fee purposes.

In partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, The University of Manchester is offering five scholarships to students in Bangladesh, Ghana, Greece, Kenya, Mexico and Nigeria, applying for one-year master’s programmes, who will enrol in the 2024/25 academic year. 

The GREAT Scholarships 2024 programme, launched by the British Council together with 72 UK universities, supports postgraduate students to access world class UK higher education opportunities. 

The scholarship programme offers financial support of a minimum of £10,000 to students pursuing one-year postgraduate study in the UK. Students can apply for courses in a range of subjects at the 72 institutions across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.   

Applications will close on 26 April 2024.
