University of Reading Overview

The University of Reading was founded in 1892 and received its Royal Charter in 1926. The redbrick campus is situated close to the city centre and just 25 minutes from London, with 15,000 students from over 150 countries currently enrolled.

The University of Reading is established within the top 200 universities in the world and 94% of graduates are in work or further study within six months of graduating. The University also scored 89% in the last National Student Survey, with its Student Union rated in the top ten in the UK.

Reading offers special foundation business courses and English lessons, while the University is also known for its many partnerships with overseas universities and institutions, ranging from student exchanges to research collaborations. A new campus was also recently opened in Malaysia.

University of Reading Services for International Students

Reading is home to students from over 150 countries and a special pre-sessional English programme for those who wish to improve their English, or who have yet to achieve the required English language level, is available. Individual support sessions are available for all students to discuss any problems they may have in confidence.

98% of Reading’s research submitted in the Research Excellence Framework 2014 was found to be ‘internationally recognised’, while 78% was ‘internationally excellent’. This placed the University 19th in the UK by research intensity and 27th by research power.

University of Reading Accommodation

The University of Reading is a residential University where the majority of undergraduates as well as many postgraduates live in ten university owned Halls of Residence. These Halls provide nearly 4,000 rooms and all accommodation is within a mile of the central study facilities, with easy access to shops, banks and social facilities. The rooms vary in style and size, with a wide range of study, domestic and social facilities available. There is also private accommodation available to rent in the vicinity of the University of Reading.

Located between London and Oxford on the River Thames, Reading is an historic county town of Royal Berkshire with a population of 148,000. The town lies in the south east of England and allows easy access from London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports. The University is just 25 minutes from London via train.
