University of Surrey Overview

The University of Surrey is a campus university located in south west London and was named ‘University of the Year' for 2016 in the Times & Sunday Times University Guide. There are currently almost 15,000 students enrolled at two campuses in Stag Hill and Manor Park from 120 different countries, making it one of the most international universities in the UK.

In addition to being named University of the Year, Surrey also excels in a number of other areas. Exceptional results were seen in student satisfaction, rising entry standards and a high employment rate. The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide has praised the University in the past for being one of “the most innovative universities in the UK: reducing its dependence on state funding, investing £400m to develop the campus in Guildford, and launching a joint venture in China.”

The University of Surrey also has a Professional Training placement programme. It boasts over 2,300 partners across the globe and provides opportunities for students to out their skills into practice and to experience a real working environment.

University of Surrey Services for International Students

The International Office team promotes the University of Surrey overseas and helps support international students before, during and after their time at Surrey. A Meet and Greet service is operated over selected days at both Heathrow and Gatwick during September, while orientation programmes take place during welcome week.

The Department of Languages and Translation Studies at the University has been offering English courses to international students since 1982. Pre-sessional and general English lessons are available before the start of term, while the English Language Support Programme and English for University Study run during term time. Alongside English classes, students can also improve study skills such as note-taking and research.

University of Surrey Accommodation

There is guaranteed accommodation for all first-year students and continuing overseas full-time research postgraduates. Flats and houses are available on campus, with two thirds on the main Stag Hill campus and the other third split between the Manor Park and Hazel Farm sites. Over 50% of rooms have en suite facilities, and all University of Surrey student bedrooms have unlimited, free broadband. Options are also available if you wish to study in the UK and bring your family along, while limited single-sex accommodation can be requested.

Off campus, there is a variety of housing in the Guildford area let privately or through the University of Surrey's own Property Management Scheme.

University of Surrey Location

The University of Surrey’s main campus is located on Stag Hill close to the centre of Guildford and adjacent to Guildford Cathedral. A second campus, at Manor Park, is located a short distance away and has been developed to expand upon existing accommodation, academic buildings and sporting facilities. London is half an hour away by train, with easy access to both Gatwick and Heathrow airports.

The landscaped grounds which surround the main campus are a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and feature country pubs and classic attractions such as Box Hill, as well as acres of countryside for walking or cycling.
