Students in the Senior Freshman (second) year may compete for a foundation scholarship, which will go into effect at the start of the student's third year. Up to ninety foundation scholars are elected annually on the basis of performance in the scholarship examination, which is usually held in the week before the start of the second term. Foundation scholars are entitled to a range of privileges, as detailed in the Emoluments and Privileges section of the College Calendar. In addition to the tangible benefits held by Scholars, these scholarships are highly prestigious, conferring a lifelong status within the College. Successful candidates, those achieving an overall first class result in the examination for scholarship, are elected by the Board on Trinity Monday, which marks the beginning of the annual Trinity Week when the community celebrates high standards of achievement among students and staff. |
